As COVID-19 restrictions ease and Albertans begin to move forward, rebuild and reconnect, we’re all looking ahead to the future.
June 18 is the last day of the temporary 90-day Utility Deferral Program. Like all aspects of our lives during this time, emerging from the deferral period will be gradual. If you deferred payments between March 18 and June 18, 2020, you’ll have a full year to repay your deferred amounts.
At the end of the deferral period, your energy statements will continue as usual, including any previously unpaid balances (Balance Forward). On your first statement, you’ll see a credit for the deferred amount (Deferred Balance). That amount will then be divided into 12 equal payments (Deferral Repayment Amount) which will be added to your monthly statements over the next year.

What is the deferral period?
The deferral period was for energy bills due from March 18 to June 18, 2020, not your consumption dates or statement dates.

How much time do I have to repay my 90-day deferral balance?
You have a full 12 months to repay what was deferred during those 90 days. Divided equally, it’s approximately 7 extra days’ worth of energy charges on your statements over the next year.

Do I have to pay in 12 equal installments?
Not at all. That’s the default option, but you can always contact us to make other arrangements. We know that not everyone’s in the same place, and we’ll work with you to find a solution that fits your situation.

Will there be interest on the deferred amount?
Your deferred amount will remain interest-free as long as you continue to make your minimum monthly payments.

Where can I see how much is left on my deferred balance?
After you get your July statement, you’ll be able to see the amount remaining on your deferred balance online in My Account. You can log in anytime to check your balance.
